Join our Community Engagement Team and Pastor Dave Peterson as we examine what motivates us and what should motivate us as Christians to serve others. We'll learn how good intentions can have dire consequences for those we want so badly to help. We'll discuss:
How can we come alongside others and honor them with dignity rather than create unhealthy dependency?
How do we move to a thoughtful path of strong relationships and community development rather than destructive acts of compassion?
What hard work needs to happen in our own hearts and minds before we can be effective, healthy God-bearers of good news?
Please join the conversation! Using Robert Lupton's Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Reverse It) as our guide, we will dig into these and other questions. We want to go on a personal journey of spiritual transformation and come out on the other side with strategies for community-driven engagement that produce joyful, measurable, and lasting change.
This class will meet for four weeks on Monday evenings: March 25th, April 1st, 8th, and 22nd (no class April 15 during Holy Week).
