charley scandlyn, pastor

Charley Scandlyn has been a pastor for more than 30 years in San Diego and Menlo Park, California. His ministry focuses on helping people live in the way of Jesus. Charley spent many years as a pastor to middle and high school students and young adults. He also coached in local public schools for his four sons' sports teams every year for almost 20 years. Charley has a master’s degree in theology from Fuller Seminary and often speaks on subjects such as relationships, adolescence, parenting, leadership and spiritual formation. Charley was the founding executive director for the Ravenswood Education Foundation in East Palo Alto, where he helped raise funds and develop programs to improve educational outcomes for local public schools. Charley and his wife Nicole have a total of seven children, ranging from 17-27 years old.



jaron cheung, Associate Minister of Youth, Young Adults, & Community Engagement

Jaron joins New Community Church from Los Angeles, where he taught middle school. He previously served as a research assistant at Duke University. Jaron holds a B.A. in Public Policy from UC-Riverside and a Masters in Theological Studies from Duke University.

Alice is our part-time director of infrastructure. She also works at Stanford University and serves on our Launch Leadership Team.

Aisea Lupeheke Taimani, associate minister of worship

Aisea is a Tongan Creative Artist and Psalmist, born and raised out of Newark, CA by parents and pastors Vaka and Neomai Taimani. He is the brother of Teolosia, Barry, Vaka Jr. and Toakase. He is also uncle to six nieces and two nephews.  

As a pastor's son, Aisea grew up serving alongside his family at the First Tongan Assembly of God Church in San Carlos, where his mother and father still serve.

Over the past 20 years, Aisea has focused on serving youth and congregations as a creative psalmist, speaking, performing, and teaching both internationally and nationally.  

Aisea is also a recording artist, releasing his first full record “Closer To Home” in Fall 2018, a project inspired by the prodigal son narrative, with a cultural emphasis that parallels the spiritual journey back home. Follow him at: @samuraisea     @weareminorislands



Ever turcios, Part-time associate minister and finance/Accounting

Ever is an associate minister at New Community Church and also manages finance/accounting. Ever is also the executive pastor at Verbo Church and serves on our Launch Leadership Team.
