Our mission and vision
We are a Jesus-centered, scripture-based community of people exploring what it means to live a new way of life, following the person and teaching of Jesus. Our vision is to become a Jesus-centered community that is learning to embrace our belovedness as children of God, growing in love for our neighbors, while joining in the restorative work of God happening within and around us.

Our history
New Community Church Menlo Park (NCC), originally known as First Baptist Church Menlo Park (FBC), sits at the corner of Arbor and Middle Avenue. Over time, FBC had become a faithful group of ten, and in 2015 after the retirement of their pastor, the elders sought a path to revitalize the church. Along with their denominational leadership, the American Baptist Church of the Central Pacific Coast, they invited longtime Menlo Park Pastor Charley Scandlyn into this vision. Following a campus renovation, building a new board, and hiring a new team, NCC held its first service in August 2018.
NCC’s name was chosen to reflect who we are: New, because God is always doing something new and His mercies are new each morning. NCC is also made new whenever someone new joins us. We are a community. Community is God’s plan for spiritual friendships with Jesus and each other. And church is a sacred place where we can care for our souls and the people around us.
Our denomination
New Community Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA), a mainline Christian denomination, in its Central Pacific Coast region. With more than one million members and 5,000 congregations, ABCUSA is known for being the most diverse Christian denomination and the denomination of Martin Luther King, Jr. ABCUSA’s congregationalist polity means that each local church is a distinct and autonomous congregation, responsible for articulating its own doctrine, style of worship and mission. ABCUSA is not affiliated with the Southern Baptist Church.
